  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help!

We've been away for weekend and have come home to a packet of rice on the floor of the rabbits' room. I don't know how much they have eaten. My fiance's parents last came to feed the buns at about 12 today so it's happened fairly recently.

They are pooing (white poos) and picking at hay. Both are sprawled out at the moment but are still fairly lively. I've given them some Zantac Syrup (from the vets when Albert had GI stasis)...does anyone have any ideas what else I should do????

Help!!!!!

You're going to need to keep a very close eye, at the very least. Keep them drinking lots, and eating. However, I would be thinking a call to the vets would be smart, but you may need a trip if either go downhill.

Hard plain uncooked rice shouldn't cause too much of a problem there is far worse stuff use to bulk up the pellets we feed. Just keep a close eye on them make sure they eat plenty of their normal hay and feed, would be worth checking on them in the night just to make sure

Id keep a very close eye on them...and call the vet to ensure they know the story if yo do need to go later. Id also get some fresh herbs or plants if you can...ready to entice some hay eating if need be. Hope they ok xxx

She's been to the vets today and was jabbed a few times with pain killer and gut stimulation drugs. She's currently in the litter tray eating hay but ignoring the broccoli that Albert is munching on...:?

just thinking...bless them...the broccoli is quite gassy for their tummies...so avoid brassica's veges when they have tummy upset;) Something fibreous I think is supposed to be better..gets the gut moving....so plantain, hay (obviously lol!), bramble leaves would help...;) sending lotsa vibes xxx
