FURIOUS at Vet Nurse

Mama Doe
will definitely be complaining, My rabbit as at vet for intermittent stasis been grumbling on for a week now he's quite a stressy bun but this is what my vet nurse said to me and i quote "it's come to our attention that your rabbit is more stressed in your presence probably because you are a stressful person, your making him ill. Perhaps you could consider finding another owner!!!!!" Fuming i am stressed, i have a lot going on but I love my rabbit and think this was awful after using the D1ck vet I have realized how rubbish my vet is, no IV fluids, no supportive feeding etc just stuck in a kennel NEXT to a CAT !!!!

Unbelievable.:evil: The vet nurse's behaviour is absolutely appalling and you should definitely complain.

I would think that most of us get stressed/upset when our bunnies are poorly, it's natural behaviour from a caring and loving owner.

I think you definitely need a more competent vet who can offer proper treatment for stasis. From what you've said it sounds like it's the treatment/care (or lack of it!) that is at fault, rather than the fact that you are upset and stressed.

I hope your bunny gets better very soon. xx

Flaming cheeky cow

I would put in a written complaint straight away.

God, some people are just so damn tactless and frankly I think I might just have told her EXACTLY what I thought of her 'opinion'

What the :censored: 'more stressed in YOUR presence' ??? How rude!

I would definitely make some kind of complaint! Every single rabbit I have ever taken to the vets has ALWAYS been stressed in their presence, and that is probably because of the journey there and they know the vets is definite not their home! So rude!!

Unbelievable. It the Royal D!ick is easily accessible to you I would definitely up sticks and go there. If they are not syringe feeding a stasis bun whilst admitted what an earth are they doing to treat them?

The suggestion of the new owner is completely unacceptable, I honestly think she should be considering a new career as she isn't suited to her current one! Definitely a case of rabbit finding a new vet NOT a new owner!!!

OMG!!! How incredibly rude. Probably your bun wanted to go home as soon as he saw you. Definitely go ahead with the complaint.

Also +1 to getting your vet treatment at the Bush if you can.

What a horrid person  I dread to think how many people she's said that to who have listened

How on earth did you contain yourself enough to not scream every foul word under the sun at her?!

I burst out crying, when I composed myself at home phoned the manager straight away & explained to be told by the manager not (vet or nurse) that the nurse was only making a valid observation so I basically said I wanted a second opinion which they had the cheek to seem annoyed with

I suggest you find yourself a competent rabbit savvy vet asap, as your current vet appears to not have the foggiest idea as to what he needs to be doing to treat your poor bun. Previously I used a what I call GP vet, but they for the main are all rubbish and my rabbit was completely misdiagnosed, on 4 separate incidents. It was only when the last vet thought it would be kindest to put Roger to sleep, that I knew I had to have a second opinion, and so contacted a rabbit rescue in my area to see who she recommended. She then put me in touch with an amazing rabbit vet, who has a rabbit clinic, everything surgically is all geared up for rabbits, all he does is rabbits, and people travel from all over the country to him, as he has got such a fantastic reputation and so much experience and knowledge. As soon as he saw Roger and made the correct diagnosis and was given the correct medication, Roger started to improve dramatically within 24hrs. Please be aware that all other vets apparently only spend one afternoon out of their 5yrs training on exotic pets, which is the category rabbits come under, and really have little or no real knowledge of rabbits at all. I am currently campaigning with the Royal Veterinary College, for vets to receive more training for rabbits, as they are the 3rd most popular pet, and vets probably see them on a daily basis, but have no idea as to what they are doing. I wrote to the Practise Manager of the vets who wanted to put Roger to sleep, advising her of what was actually wrong with Roger, and what their vet had been contemplating, and to be fair she said me a really lovely letter, a cheque refunding all the monies I had paid them, and assurring me that they would be reviewing their policies for treating rabbits. If they did then brilliant, but to be honest they would never be able to offer me the service and support that Simon does, and I would never use such a Practise again, because their surgical instruments etc all tend to be more geared up for dogs, which is the animal they mostly operate on, but I now know that that poses too much of a risk to rabbits, and so would not use such vets again.

That is disgusting, I'm not surprised you were in tears, its disgusting that they have treat you like this :( a formal complaint to the highest person, and a new vet practice is what I would do.

Obviously they're more stressed there, and what they see as stressed might actually be excitement at seeing you, or he was probably trying to get to you, so he could go home with you! How bloody rude and ignorant of them, I'm so angry at them.

Hope he's better soon and you sort this out :( xxxx

I can't believe how badly you was treated. I would have gone mental if she had said that to me. I think you should post what vets it was just so other members can avoid it like the plague. Big hugs to you xxx

That's disgusting.:censored::shock:

If you didn't care about the bunny you wouldn't be paying for it to be at the vet in the first place, and what a horrible thing for her to say...the bun is clearly stressed from being ill and at the vet!

I'm within driving distance of D1ck vet only use this one as its closest and he doesn't travel well but I'm going to transfer to the vet school because even with a stressful journey it will be better for him in long run.I'm trying to get a second opinion appointment arranged, the practice he is at said I couldn't visit this evening but I pretty much went down and grabbed him I'm going to give sub cut fluids and supportive care at home (i am a vet nurse on a break for personal reasons at minute) which makes this situation worse.
So far I took him down one week ago and I said he's in stasis, not sure why vet said stasis IS primary problem which I wasn't convinced given some fiberplex sent home NO painrelief, two days later not eating/drinking I had to fight for subcut fluids and painrelief then yesterday no poos they said bring him straight down so I did thought they would put him on fluids and syringe feed him they haven't done anything just gave him zantac, went to visit and find him beside a cat I asked them to move him and they said its fine the cat can't get to him  I said I was more worried about a bunnies increased sense of smell to which she said oh they cant smell that well surely!!!
It's so frustrating as a nurse who loves and wants to specialise in bunnies to come up against a brick wall I know what he needs just need a vets ok.
So I basically said give me fluids, painrelief, and some food and I'll treat him myself til vet school can see him & do more tests its shocking to realize how little general practice vets know!
