Wise Old Thumper
For those who have followed Parsley's many and varied health issues over the last couple of years . . . (the broken leg, the bitten ears, the wonky nose, the inner ear abscess, the melanoma, the head humping/penis emergency op. etc etc) just thought an update would be good . . and might also explain to newer RU people why I am constantly fund raising for Parsley!!! (despite him being insured!)
As some will know . . the inner ear abscess has been a long and fairly useless series of experiments with various abx - you name it we've tried it (and some more) - even the bright pink one, and the one you have to mix at home, and the injectible ones, and the ones never used on rabbits etc etc - and nothing seems to work.
A recent CT scan shows that the abcsess is now 2cm across:shock: - but fortunately growing outward rather than inward (so the brain is still fine:lol. Its not grown THAT much since the original CT scan 2 years ago (when after seeing the scan the vet said 'take him home and enjoy him for his last few days . . . ) but any effect Baytril ever had has worn off and it now actively sends up pus . .
so On this Wednesday Parsley will have a operation to take all the infection from the bulla . . . a large op. BUT we have no choice as . .
His latest bloods show that altho kidney and liver etc are fine he now has anaemia severely as a result of fighting this infection long term. If we let it progress then he will die of anaemia - even though he doesnt actually act much differently yet (he can still beat Peaches to a bowl of banana flavoured baby food from a standing start!!),
So thats the bad and scary news . . . this Weds coming is Bulla day - and I am pretty petrified by the thought . . .
The good news is that the canine melanoma vaccine is holding the cancer at present and even though the small melanoma growth near his eye has started to grow back (he was originally scheduled to have an op to remove that again . . but this anaemia thing came up on the tests so we have had to change tack) the full body scan shows that it has not metastisised to cause cancer anywhere in his body at present which is GREAT news! (and great news for bunnies generally as well as for Parsley as it means that others can now try it . . he was the first one)
The medium good news is that the wound in his 'other ear' pinna is finally healing and he PROMISES me not to get involved in any more squabbles with Parsley Piert Parcels . . . though this has had a habit of flaring up just because his immune system is generally having a hard time . . .
On the totally good news front . . he still eats for England, runs around keeping an eye on all the other buns, (though the anaemia has made him a bit quieter), pesters us at 9pm and 9 am for his medicines, and is generally Parsley . . . .:roll:
(oh yes - and 3 months into the new insurance year he has yet again spent the £2,000 allowance already . . .
welcome to Parsley's world!!!!!
(and wish him luck and vibes for Wednesday . . . we will all need them . . . )
