  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Alice is doing teeny tiny poos should I be worried?!

Alice's poos seem a lot smaller than usual the last few days.
Is it something I should be worried about?
They almost looks like the poos she was doing when we 1st got her because she was hardly eating.
But she is eating, she never stops eating lol!
I haven't made any changes to her diet and can't think of anything else that has changed in her routine the last few days.
Am I over reacting?!

is she molting into a winter coat? one of mine used to have small poos when she was molting if she is you can give her a good brush to remove the excess hair.

Otherwise it could well be the early indication of an underlying problem.

If shes quite happy in her self you could try some high fiber corse timothy hay which will help to bulk up her poos.

Can you switch her to hay only and see if that improves things? Not to worry you but my late Blanche had tiny poos and just seemed a bit quiet. Despite medical attention she died within three days.

Is she eating as much hay as normal ? Given her recent eye problems and now a slow down of her GI tract I would get the Vet to check her teeth. The two symptoms just mentioned and her Breed make me suspect potential problems in the teeth department.

Hope she is OK. I would have her teeth checked, for the reasons Jane has already mentioned. Poo size/colour can vary a bit in some buns (like Spenser), but I'd take her to be checked to be on the safe side.

Yeah she's eating loads of hay still, loads of everything really!

I've seen 2 different vets about her teeth as wanted a 2nd opinion, they both advised against having any x rays done as she is eating fine not dribbling and her eye is no longer watering - Am I able to still ask them to do them? Also, with regards to the spur she has they said they would keep an eye on it as was so tiny and not causing her any problems - can I make them treat it now?
It's worrying me and I don't think I'll stop worrying till the x rays are done and I know what's happening.

If you remain concerned then it is perfectly reasonable to discuss the issues with the Vet again :)
