I am hoping someone can help us with Barnaby - We are taking him to the vets this week but would love some ideas as we are at a bit of a dead end until then.

About a month ago, Barnaby started drinking more, peeing everywhere and the fur all around his tail was constantly soaked. We and the vet both suspected a UTI so he was given Septrin, which didn't really make a difference so we took him back and got some Baytril which seems to have done the job. They also took a urine sample which didn't show anything except that it was a bit diluted, which we thought was understandable given the amount of water he was drinking. They said that if he still hasn't improved then we should take him back for more tests, which we are doing.

Thing is, he does seem pretty much perfect in every way apart from the wet fur around his bum - His tail & feet are still fluffy but the pee seems to go up his back, somehow :? He has had several bum baths - One just last night, we made sure his fur was bone dry but this morning it is wet again. We're trying to keep the tray as clean and dry as possible, lots of Megazorb, straw, etc. We have even given them a bigger litter tray as we thought he may be a little squished in the old one but, even though they seem happier with more space, his fur is still wet. We're so frustrated and don't know what else we can do for him (apart from going to the vets, obviously).

Thanks for any suggestions.

One of my girls was like this a few weeks ago. Tried abx and no effect. She went in for conscious x-ray to check for kidney/bladder stones and all was clear. She had her bloods done and although some readings were slightly high in some areas it did not indicate for certain there were any specific issues. While we were waiting for bloods to come back I was concerned in case she was in pain so vet advised (after 1st bloods re kidneys back) to give low dose of metacam. Her EC results came back clear a couple of days later.

We started to give 0.2ml of dog metacam and she stopped wetting herself (coincidence maybe but she had been wet for about 4 weeks since it started and abx) We were told to try this for 2 weeks and then reduce to 0.1 and then stop. We are now 2 weeks in and she is still dry.

She was not drinking water excessively.

Good luck.

wow you have just basically said everything the same as I did with Matilda!!!

wet bum, exess drinking vet did urine sample only found it was diluted etc

have soent many months testing and trailing to see what causes it!!

what food is she on?

My matildas seems to re occer if shes given fenugreeks, fruit or veg, or excel foods

shes had none of these for the last 2 months! and has been wet bum free the entire time, which is the most shes gone without a problem

might be a coincedence but im convinced its diet related!

I was actually thinking it could be diet-related, but they don't really have that much in the way of treats. I am lucky in the sense that both bunnies are hay monsters! Each night they have 10g of Excel (which he was on with no problems before he came to us), although we have been trying to wean them onto SS. I suppose that's a possibility? They don't really get any fruit or veg, just some herbs now and again.

I sound so cruel in terms of food!

I find excel really 'rich' of thats to right word, tils is on p@h nuggets

Ok, vet visit this morning, no improvements and he's lost weight so we're now thinking it's his kidneys. Been referred to an exotics specialist who we're going to see this afternoon.

Just want him to be better :(

Awwww, im so sorry you're going through this, must ne very stressful for you.

At least you are being referred though and will hopefully get to the bottom of the problem. Pixie keeps failing to use her litter tray and although I am 99% sure it's behaviour related that is stressful enough.

When I was referred to a specialist she really put my mind at ease. Hopefully it will all get sorted. Good luck

Well, wasn't really expecting that - Vet seemed pretty convinced it is down to EC. Both bunnies now have a 28-day course of Lapizole and are going back next week to check on their progress. Really hope this works.

Barnaby peed on him, couldn't help but laugh

I've got unwell bunny she's had 550ml of water in the last 24 hours :( bum is soaked we're on day 6 of a septrin and metcam corse her eating is now back on track and day 16 of a panacure corse.

I'm really worried abou her she's so thin and I don't want to fatten her with nything incase the sugar or calcium will harm her

Yeah, this Lapizole isn't going down very well! He refused to have it direct in his mouth and is now refusing to have it on veg... Not sure what to do now, we're all getting really frustrated, any suggestions would be very appreciated

You will need to be firm and wrap him in a towel with just his nose and mouth exposed. Administer the nozzle/syringe into the side of his mouth in the gap between his incisors and his molars.

Oh man. Don't know how much more I can take. I was in work today so Michael took the bunnies to their appointment this afternoon. He's lost more weight (despite upping his food intake), the Lapizole doesn't seem to be making a difference (if anything his incontinence seems to be worse) and it's gone from being one thing to a long list of possibilities. He was very concerned about the choking last night too, thinking it could be due to an underlying problem. Kidney problems, teeth problems/abscess, hairballs... My head's a bit battered I can't even remember half of it. He's going back tomorrow for X-rays and blood tests. I just don't know what to do anymore, I don't think he's ever going to be ok. Doesn't really help that we can barely afford any of this.

I am sorry to hear that it was not better news  I hope the Vet can find out what is wrong and that whatever it is can be treated.

Had a feeling this would happen. He was a lot worse than first thought. He never even made it through sedation but even if he did he'd have just deteriorated quickly anyway

Oh my gosh, I am so so sorry  I don't know what to say :( Binky free Barnaby, sending ((((hugs)))) to you as well xx
