Grayson's new abode (hamster)

Well iv set up the vivarium for Grayson. Decided he might aswell be in it and make use of it even tho it's not exactly what I want, it's a million times better than the carrier he was in! Its not got everything in yet, im waiting on a wooden thing to create a barrier on top of the house to make it into a foraging area I may be getting a bigger vivarium from a friend who used to keep snakes so fingers crossed :thumb: But for now here is his house...



And here is my dog Alfie looking for the critter whilst I was setting it up, even tho there's never been a creature in there he still somehow knew that there should be?! :lol: Excuse the mess





And here is Grayson exploring... Sorry about the reflections on the glass, didn't want to open it in case I disturbed him or made him think he was coming out to play!!

And in his wheel!! He seems to love it, I'm so pleased!!

Not painted/plasticoted it yet so fingers crossed he's not going to wee too much in it!

Thanks :wave: I think it's a pretty good space for him actually but did look way smaller than I imagined when it arrived. There's more things iv got and wanted to get for him tho so def need to upgrade to something bigger but I think he'll be fine for the time being, at least I can take my time creating something perfect now as I was rushing into it a bit with this, desperate to get him out of the carrier

I was calling my newest rabbit Grayson but it didn't seem to suit him somehow and the times I'd seen him befote i got him he was dashing around (well trying to in the tiny glass cage he was in ) and I'd always thought Dash was a cool name so that seemed to suit him better! Then I got the hamster and was trying to think of a name that reflected his colouring and was 'distinguished' as he is so pretty I imagine he is like a distinguished gentleman :lol: then I was like doh... Grayson! Perfect for him!! Thing is now i get confused and keep calling Dash Grayson!! One of my neighbours has a little boy called Grayson too!! Hope they never find out iv named my hamster that haha :lol:

I really like the idea of using a vivarium as a home, it looks great

If the viv isnt what you are after though, wouldnt it be better to send it back whilst you can and get your money back, and put it towards something that is better? I'm assuming its the size you are unhappy with? I cant figure out if the wheel is massive or the viv is small :lol:

I had already made adaptions to it tho so couldn't send it back now :roll: Like the wheel is screwed onto the viv etc. It is a huge wheel :lol: but a daily small viv too! Hence why the wheel takes up half the space :lol: Hopefully I'm getting a bigger viv from a friend (hopefully for free :thumb so shouldn't be too long til he can go into something bigger

How about attaching something else to the viv via a tube? Maybe a cage with bars for climbing, or a plastic storage box type cage with deep litter for digging?

I do want to include a digging box and more climbing things for him but don't really want to add extra bits on as it's in my lounge so I want it to be fairly 'neat' looking! Thanks for the ideas tho :thumb:

Here's me thinking moving him to the lounge will mean I get to c more of him... Erm nope!! :roll: Last night he kept popping out for a few mins then retiring back to bed! I put a piece of carrot in, came back a min later and it had mysteriously vanished but still no sign of Grayson! Thos morn I went down and switched light on and he was on his wheel and looked around like 'eek iv been caught!' then next time I looked he'd disappeared :lol: To be fair the environment is new and the room is new, diff sounds etc so hopefully I'll c more of him once he's settled :roll:
