Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please advise - Doughnut has diarrhea - Doughnut''s feeling better :)

Doughnut is acting really strange and is making very strange noises. I took her to the vets and she has diarrhea. I have antibiotics, pancur and fibreplex and critical care should I need it.

She's not eating but is making very strange noises again like choking. He checked her throat and it's all clear but what are these noises. I'm so sorried, she's not herself and was trying to drink but instead rubbed her head on the bowl.

My other vets is open now so should I go down there as well, the noises are really worrying me. It's like when she's drunk something and swallowing.

You don't say when she saw the first vet but if you have more trust in your usual vet and you are still worried, I would definitely get her down there, he symptoms do sound worrying. I'd always rather be seen as over-cautious tha risk not getting them help when they need it.

I agree that if you feel happier seeing your own vet, then take her as soon as you can...I'm sure my vets think I'm neurotic ( I was there every day for a week once!) , but I don't care when it comes to my buns..you have to do what you think is best.

The additional vet appointment will give you piece of mind, Evie had diarrhea and it was a side effect of the septrin for her snuffles. We found out she was dehydrated as well and made sure she had a water bowl as well as syringing water into her. I've readthat chamomile tea can be useful for buns with diarrhea but I have personally never used it and you should run it by your vet first.

Sending vibes for doughnut xxx

Thanks everyone I took her to see the other vets too. He gave her something to start her gut and also a pain relief injection. She is still making the strange noises but he thinks she also has colic and it's her gut. It's an awful sound though.

She's had a tiny bit of grass and a few bramble leaves and a sip of water. Hopefully everything will kick in soon. She's cleaning herself too and is still quite lively but is staying in her play pen and won't come out. Probably thinks I'm taking her to another vets!

They said they would look for an improvement by tonight if not back again tomorrow. Really worried but guess it's just a waiting game.

Thank you. The noises are still continuing but she ate a little bit of a dandelion. Ever time she bends to clean herself she makes a noise, guessing its her gassy stomach. She also won't eat any hay, still very worried as still only diarrhea coming out.

Has anyone else had that and their rabbit been OK?

Diarrhoea is very worrying in a rabbit. If it is true very watery diarrhoea she is at risk of dehydration and (not from my own experience but from rabbit savvy posters) I would think that she *might* need to be put on a drip or to be given fluids by injection. I would really have expected her to be admitted. Definitely keep a very close eye on her.

I hope somebody more knowledgeable comes along to advise.

She will eat dandelion leaves but nothing else but that makes her have a poopy bum if she keeps eating them, should I carry on giving them to her as anything is better than nothing?

The fact that she is eating is really good. I have never treated one with diarrhoea so I don't know what to advise, sorry. I do know that the best thing would be raspberry leaves or something high fibre similar. I'm guessing that anything is better than nothing as long as it's not anything that could aggrivate the guts such as fruit.

I have raspberry leaves down by her side for her but she hasn't touched them. That and 3 lots of different hay trying to tempt her. Just feel really down and upset. Hopefully she will pick up, feel like I've done something wrong but she's only on bramble leaves, hay and an egg cup of pellets.

I took her to two vets for peace of mind but one of them had referred me on to a specialist before, so he said I could see if I wished. If she's not better tomorrow I will take her to see the specialist.

She's actually just nibbled four strands of hay! I know it's not much but she wouldn't touch it before. She does keep bending down to try and clean herself or get the cecal but it's just diarrhea. It's not liquid just very mushy and I'm sure the noise is farting or her gut. After she's bend to clean herself she makes a noise.

Perhaps I just worry too much - I know I wouldn't be happy leaving one of my rabbits overnight, without at least speaking to the vet again.

Did the Vet administer subcutaneous fluids ? This is an absolute essential for a Rabbit with diarrhoea. Dehydration can occur very rapidly. If she is still passing diarrhoea and she has not/is not receiving fluids she needs admission for intensive care today

Ditto.

Thanks everyone for advice and support.

I gave doughnut some gas drops, now that awful noise has stopped and she begged for a pellet! I haven't been told anything about her liquid consumption but she did eat some wet grass and wet dandelion leaves. She's eaten a tiny bit of hay and she's now had about 7 normal fecal poops. Does this mean she's turned a corner? She's nowhere near eating as much as normal and when she's had grass she doesn't normally drink hardly anything either.

My friend is round in a minute who is good at syringe feeding, so you think I should give her a bit of critical care to be on the safe side so she has more in her stomach and also syringe her some water?

I gather you do not think it necessary to get emergency vet appointment. Sorry, I can't offer any further advice.
