  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My 8 week old rabbit sounds like his nose is blocked, when he is breathing he has to open his mouth to breath,he is not eating or drinking

so sorry .. .

if you decide to try again then best not to buy from the same place.

perhaps you might consider a bunny from rescue? there are many waiting for new homes and they are all health checked before hand.

Avin was my male and my mates fmale rabbits babie, sadly we took her at 6 weeks old instead of waiting and the vet said it was probably because she wasn't getting enough calcium from her mum,,I feel awful :(

it could have been anything that caused it but it does sound a bit early to be alone.
binky free avin :(

I nearly lost my barney when he was young (not quite that young) and I had barely got to know him. It was only a miracle (and FHB and RU) that he survived. I cant fully related to your story but I know what it feels like to blame yourself and you just cant.

I would do a bit of research about Rabbits before you obtain another one. They are really not easy Pets to care for and a huge commitment. Also, they dont stay cuddly babies forever. They are not really an ideal children's pet unless an adult has the main responsibility for day-to-day care for the whole life of the Rabbit- ie 10+ years.
