  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

bloods question

My rabbit has horrendous teeth and needs a dental every 4-5 week's this time however she has lost a lot of weight. So the vet suggested bloods because of the amount of general anaesthetic she has needed everything was normal except a really high creatinine kinase indicative of muscle trauma my vet thinks this is always elevated in bunnies anyway.
Anyone have experience of this blood level & its effects high end normal is 200 my rabbits levels are 5470 what do I do & should she be on some kind of treatment.
Many thanks

Creatinine kinase can be high from stress as well and is very often high in Buns, to my understanding if they fidget it can be higher. It also indicates muscle wastage but most buns show it and my vet has never been worried about it.

The blood was taken under anaesthetic as she was in for a dental, my vet wasn't to concerned except by the fact in her last sample in May it wasn't high now she's lost over 1kg in weight & the only thing on the bloods is a high creatinine kinase she said she would research it for me but I tend to fret
