Roseys blood results and how on earth do you get a wee sample?!!

I just spoke to the vet about Roseys blood tests and the results have come back indicating there is problems with her liver and kidneys and a possible gut function problem aswell :(

They want a wee sample as the next step so they can test levels of something or other :( Im so worried about her...what could be causing this? She reeled off the various results and all i managed to get down was that roseys Urea reading is high, kidney enzymes are high and there was also a problem with her red cell count although the white one was fine...her blood sugar was low.

How on earth am I going to get a wee sample? She is eating well and they have suggested that I feed her ad lib pellets (Jacks Jane do you agree??) rather than her handful each morning?

I meant to ask if her liver and kidneys are causing problems should I be avoiding any certain types of herbs/veg? or be looking at a special type of pellets?

Im so stressed out with all this and just wish we knew what was going on :( I have mentioned the hepatic coccidiosis (how ever you spell it) and they are looking into it but she said she doesnt want to make any diagnosises or anything untill we get more results...

Don't put any litter or newspaper in her litter tray, hope she pees in it and syringe it up.

I hope you can get to the bottom of this. **massive hugs and vibes**

If you're unable to get it the vet can express the rabbit, but Rosey may need to stay there a few hours if her bladder is empty when you get there.

Do you have a dog crate? I clean the floor and rinse with lots of water then dry. I pop bunny in with no litter and wait, and wait, and wait! The sample can then be bottled although my vet gives me the sticks and a bottle with the chart on and asks me to take a note of the results so i just use the stick straight in the urine.

I normally clean out and disinfect the normal litter tray, then use some plastic cat litter from the vets (called KatKor) and put a VERY thin layer of hay over the top, then once she has gone you use the little pippette in there and put it in the tube provided!! The buns I have that have needed tests have refused point blank to wee in anything other than their normal trays.

Could it possibly be EC?
I know EC affected my Minky's kidneys.

Ginger's urea and enzyme levels are always high too - her's is not so much kidney failure, but she has kidneys that just don't work properly at all, our vet has said "about 50% at best".

As others have said, you can do the whole litter tray empty type thing, just hay, or the dog crate, but our vet expressed Gingers and she stayed for a while with them, that was best for us.

Avoid foods that are diuretics, parsley, dandelions, and also avoid high calcium veg, kale, etc. Not sure about foods to avoid for liver however, that's just for kidneys.

Is she a good hay eater? I only say as I don't think i'd be giving 'unlimited' pellets, but certainly upping them to try and get some weight on her.

Sorry to hear you're now going through this :( *vibes*

Thanks all :)

The vet did mention this...I think i will give it ago and if i cant get a sample then I will try that stuff :thumb: The vet mentioned EC but doesnt think it is as there were no obvious symptoms at all...she is on the outside a happy, healthy bunny who is eating well, pooping well, active and happy :? although i guess we cant rule anything out...

Thanks...as soon as she mentioned kidney problems I thought of your little ginger! yes she is a great hay eater and easily eats her size in hay per day if not more than that...she also loves her forage and things too. I think I might start introducing some pellets at tea time when she has her herbs and veggies...I wasnt giving her veggies but started in an attempt to get some weight on her a couple of weeks ago. I will drop the kale and look into the other veggies, she loves broccoli and her herbs.

Rosey is moving into the house today...its started getting colder out there and being on her own and with whatever is going on (plus her lack of body fat) I just think its a better idea that she comes indoors...her crate should be arriving today :) Id never entertained the idea of a house bunny!! I think it will be easier to keep checks on her indoors :thumb:

There won't necessarily be symptoms with EC. I have Artie who was diagnosed with kidney stones last year, as he had a very high titre (reading) for EC it is likely that it is EC that caused the damage to his kidney. His only symptoms were those associated with kidney stones. *Touch wood* he didn't have a any of the head tilt/neurological type symptoms that are usually associated with EC, so it is possible for the EC to be affecting kidneys only.

Having experienced a "failure to thrive" bunny, Shadow's, his PM revealed he had a congenital abnormality with his liver, I wonder if there isn't a cause for your Rosie's problems but just that she has been born with some weakness.

Shadow seemed healthy when he joined us last January (he had weepy eyes and bad teeth but his body weight and condition were really good). His health was only noticeably bad in April, he had his neuter and vaccinations within a month of getting here and I am now convinced that the stress of these changed his underlying health problems from 'coping' to 'not coping'.

I hope you manage to get some answers and even better solutions.

Oh bless him :( I will be sure to ask the vet again about the EC...they are treated with panacur every 6 months as thats what out vet recomends..but i realise this wont protect them from EC :( I dont plan on pushing forward with her spaying but she is due her vaccs this months and i dont know what to do about those :(

Sending vibes for Rosey. I hope you manage to get a sample! xxx
Thanks Susie xxx

Minky never showed any symptoms.
Infact I can't remember why she was having a blood test done as she was never "poorly"... but my vet (an exotics specialist) was shocked at her kidney test results, and we did an EC titre, although her EC levels were high we couldn't be sure that it was that that cause the problems, but we highly suspected that it was. However, she later went on to get glaucoma (another EC symptom) and sadly passed away under anaesthetic . .
