FOA anyone who uses William Lewis (vet)

Thanks for the heads up! It looks a rather small practice I wonder if they have the same facilities?! Be a shame to have the best rabbit vet in a practice without the specialist equipment he needed :?

Their head nurse has only been qualified for 2 years

Looking at the smallprint it looks as if they are part of the 'Best Friends' group, so maybe even if they don't have lots of whizzy stuff on site they have access to facilities at a range of other local surgeries if they don't have everything exactly on hand. To be honest though, there's probably not an awful lot of specialist equipment that would be needed without advance planning, as long as they have half-decent ops, kenneling and diagnostic facilities - which I'm sure they either will already if William is joining them or will have very soon if they don't!

Be interested to hear how you find things when you go to see him :D

And the other vet seems to have only joined this year...I am sure William will have considered equipment and stuff, maybe he is going to run the practice...will be interesting to see what his reasons for leaving Wylie's were..

Yeah not too sure about the name Jane

I expect they specialise in castrations :D

Oh thanks for this, this will be closer to me now. Will have to see what the facilities etc. are like there.

Yeah I thought of you when he said he was going to Brentwood :) Will let you know how I go next week. How are all your buns, would love some more pictures of them  (especially Max :love:)

They're all doing well, doesn't seem a year since Jelly bean & Sapphire came here! Will try and take some photos for you at some point :)

I know a few of you do, he has left Wylie's and will be starting at Orchid vets in Brentwood on Monday..

Hi. Can I ask how you know William has gone to Orchid vets? I had an appointment with him on Saturday at Wylies and was shocked when I got there to discover he had left and I had to see someone else! I was only talking to him a couple of weeks prior to that, when I made the appointment to see him and he didn't give any clues that he was thinking about leaving! Any idea why he left? I can't understand why he would leave such a well equipped practice to go to somewhere which doesn't look up to much (am only going by the website though, maybe it's the tardis inside......) I ended up seeing a young vet at Wylies who apparently was being trained by William, so he does know some stuff but he's not an expert like William. I don't know whether to stick with the new guy or follow William to a practice that I don't really like the look of!! :? :?

I feel exactly the same way, it seems like a choice between experienced vet or the best facilities, if the young vet was Matt he hasn't been qualified many years and I don't feel confident in any of the other vets with rabbit problems.

Matt does seem good, so I do think Wylie's would still be an option... hopefully getting an appointment with William on Friday for Gussy's teeth trim, so will feed back what the facilities are like :)

Yes, it was Matt I saw. He did seem quite good but he said himself that he's not an expert and has basically been dropped in it by William as he's now getting all his cases. I'm worried that if I go to see William I might not be able to go back to Wylies if I change my mind.... (no, I wouldn't trust any of the other vets either!)

I don't know if it is possible but I was thinking of staying registered at the Wylie's but also going to the Orchid when next needing a routine appointment to see what it is like and speak to William, if an emergency arises not quite sure what to do!

Well the orchid vets use night vets at Wylie's as out of hours cover anyway. I have an appointment Friday so will ask about the other vet there, what to do in an emergency. I have registered two buns at orchid and will keep one registered at Wylie just in case I think...

I'm hoping this will be a good thing as he may be easier to get hold of - got 7 bunnies needing their vaccs in a few weeks. Given William's contacts in the vet world I think that if he needs a particular machine to do a test then I think he will be able to get his hands on it. I doubt they do the same in-house testing so that might be a bit slower.

It looks to me Jill as if it is part of the 'best friends' group of surgeries so presumably some of the other practices in the group will have whizzy technology if needed, just so long as they have enough on site for the 95% of 'normal' stuff I guess. Be really interested to hear what you guys think when you visit - I don't envy the choice between an excellent vet at a potentially not well equipped practice or a well equipped practice without the excellent vet!
