Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

abscess....

Warren Scout
My lil bunny pepper has recently had a lateral wall resection done on her ear due to an abscess, the abscess had initially appeared as a small lump at the base of her ear, after lancing and cleaning this, i did 3x daily flushings at home, plus she was getting baytril and metacam, she was prev recieving penicillin injections aswell. Im now having a really hard time keeping the new wound clean, with all the pus and what not. After a trip to the vets yday as the wound just looked yukk ! the vet said he thought the wound was breaking down. After sedating pepper to confirm this he cleaned out all the pus and resumed the penicillin injections, unfortunately I can not afford to be referred for a ct scan to confirm wether or not the bulla of the ear is involved. Im fast running out of options for her, and do not want to consider pts as she is still her normal happy self, eating drinking pooing and still been a norty lil bunny and stealing food so I feel that pts would be the wrong descion. I was wondering if anyone knew of any vets that had experience in dealing with these abscesses that may be able to offer something else to try ?

Any help would be very greatly appreciated :)
