Why are none of the good bunny vets near me???!

Just venting, it's so frustrating  I want the best for Digby but he's such a bad traveller :(

Sometimes 'the best' is not the all hi tech diagnostics/surgery etc....etc....

Taking everything into account for each individual Rabbit what is do-able will vary widely. Doing 'the best' may mean more conservative treatment which will provide a pain free, stress free life.

IMO travelling is a major factor to take into account for Rabbits. Some really cannot cope with it at all. Morse has to go onto oxygen after a 6 minute car journey to Cs. There is no way on earth I would attempt to transport him further afield now. He would probably die in transit.

I hope that you can find a plan of action that you feel happy with, I am sure you will.

Have you not discussed sending the x-rays to a specialist first? You never know he might not need to travel. Our vets are excellent at speaking to specialists and sending test results etc so our buns don't have to travel as many of them can't. We are lucky our vets is a 2 minute walk away but when Trevor was really ill even that made her collapse :(

I do see your point  but I've seen so many threads wanting 'rabbit savvy vets in such and such a place' and there's always at least a few that are recommended by numerous other people. There just aren't any round here! Don't get me wrong, my vet isn't bad, and he generally listens to my opinions etc, but he's definitely not a bunny vet. I want to live somewhere where there's a vet like FHB just down the road! If ever I come into some money I'll be on the move for that reason alone :)

Even Ashleigh vets which comes highly recommended is over an hour away :(
Digby isn't as bad as Morse travelling wise, but he is generally heavy breathing and drooling when we get where we're going, generally 10 minutes away. If he doesn't have a scan or an op, what can we do for him? I don't think metacam alone will cut it for very long, surely?? Would we just try loads of different antibiotics until one seems to work? :?

Yes, thanks, I'm going to see what he says about that
