You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Drinking water problem- what is the best?

Hi! I just wonder what type of water should be given to rabbits as daily drinking water? :?
I read on some websites that tap water should be boiled and cool down first, before giving to the rabbits
Is that true?
atm i only fill the water bottle with filtered fresh tap water... (as we use the Brita water filter)

Any ideas? Thanks!

I use tap water, have done for the last 17 years with no problem at all

If a Rabbit has a pre-existing problem with calcium metabolism (bladder sludge/stones etc) then using pre-boiled or filtered tap water might be helpful

I've never thought about that before. I have always given tap water. It does containe chlorine though doesn't it - not supposed to be good for humans really (you can get a filter that removes that - I have a brita tap but it doesn't claim to remove chlorine) hasn't done any harm to my buns over the years hat I know of.

A very small amount of residual chlorine may be present in tap water - it is there to make sure that no bad bacteria can survive. It disappears if the water is left standing for a few hours, or if boiled. It is not harmful in trace amounts like this, although some of the bacteria may be if the chlorine (or alternatives) were not used.
