Rabbit savvy and cheap vet needed in Wakefield/Leeds area ASAP

DemiS

I'm registered with loads of vets because I always switch for neutering, but as none of my rabbits have had health problems I don't actually know which ones are really savvy with health problems

Anyway my dad had two rabbits, he thought one had broken its leg and wouldn't take it to the vets and I fell out with him big time, eventually convinced him to let me have one to rehome but he wouldn't give me the other, and now apparently that one has bald patches behind its ears and a weepy eye :(

So yes I need a good rabbit vet fairly close and not over priced (he's not that bothered about the rabbit so wont be paying much for it and I don't have much money)

Abbey House Morley are good but I'm not sure on their prices... :?

They weren't too bad price wise when Harley had to go there as an emergency but there neutering charges are ridiculous and I've seen others say they're really overpriced, If my dad seems willing I might try them but it's going to be hard enough convincing him to go/let me take the rabbit to the vet without asking him to pay out loads (especially if this rabbit needs a lot of meds and a dental!)

How is brighouse for things like this Emma? I think I remember you saying you left them because of something to do with dentals?

Anyone know if all vets4pets branches are good?

I go to vets4pets in Wakefield I think they're ace. Bumble's been neutered there (she's a girl is neuter the right word) and went back there the day after because she wasn't eating enough and so we went home with gut stimulant. And they have check ups and vaccinations there. That's the extent of our bunny problems so far. In my opinion they're not cheap (but were the cheapest for neutering after extensive ringing around for prices in our area)

I wouldn't call brighouse rabbit savvy enough to be honest. They know what they're doing for neuters but I've been disappointed in them for other things.

Ah right okay thanks, I've also had two neutered there and they were fairly cheap for that, but like you I've had no further health problems with the rabbits so I don't know what they'll be like knowledge and price wise

Okay thanks I'll stay clear

It does say on their literature for vets4pets that a couple of them specialize in rabbits and small/exotic animals I'm sure I read that so I'm thinking they'll be good. And it's an RCVS accredited small animal practice

Just to note - I dont think 'small animals' includes rabbits, or at least the small animal medicine qualification doesnt!

Hope you find somewhere Demi!

Oh right I had a bookmark from RCVS that had all the different accredited categories and that was the only one that rabbits could really fit into

I might be wrong about small animal accredited meaning rabbits don't know but anyway on the literature it did say some of the people there specialised in rabbits I'm sure I read that

I believe small animal is more cats/dogs rather than what we might class as small (rabbits, hamsters etc.) because farm animals are the big ones

FHB at Harrogate may work out cheaper overall if you can get there.

I've heard they're brilliant but it's way too far unfortunately, I'm the one in Leeds/Wakefield, my dad is even further away from harrogate

Vets4pets in Wakefield have been great with my cats too. One of my cats had a stroke while under anaesthetic it as so distressing they took him home with them overnight to keep an eye on him and didn't charge us any extra for it and they were so good. I know it's not the same because bunnies are different but my experience of them so far is good and I hope it continues being.

Well I'll see how it goes with my dad and I'll give him some options (the brilliant but expensive abbey house, an apparently very good but far away holly house, or try some closer ones), if he doesn't want abbey/holly house I'll ring up Vets4Pets and some other local ones and see if they have a rabbit specialist :)

Well he's booked the rabbit in to the closest vets, I don't know how they are with rabbits but at least he's bothered  I said I could get a lift there and go in with him but now he wont let me and is ignoring my texts :( his old house flooded (the rabbits still there) and he lives about 20 minutes away so I don't know what he's going to do if he has to give her medication, he can barely hold a rabbit and seems really against me looking after it for a while
