Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What's the average fluctuation in weight

Im trying to weigh willow daily to see if she is starting to put on weight. Yesterday she was 1.78kg today 1.76kg is that an acceptable fluctuation or is she still losing weight. By fluctuation I mean in the way that we can vary a bit during the day, after we've eaten etc.

That is not really significant, she may have had a full bladder yesterday. I would weigh her every 48 hours rather than ever day.

Thank you. I thought that might be the case. She has just been so poorly and now she's in the house I find myself watching her every move and obsessing. I've lost three bunnies in the last few months so I'm terrified. It's just as well I work or I'd prob be sat here all day. :(

I agree with Jane, that's not much and maybe 48hour intervals would be better, I'm sure it must be scary to see your rabbit looks to be loosing weight rather than gaining, so perhaps you could make a graph using excel or something to monitor progress? And even if some days your bun does go down slightly you'll hopefully see over a slightly longer period of time she's gaining weight and you can see how quickly she's doing so

ETA: I'd also try weigh at the same time each day, like just before feeding time

My vet suggests either a 5% bodyweight loss in one go or three losses in a row would be clinically significant and would warrant a vet visit. That's not to say that other instances wouldn't require it, of course, especially if there are other symptoms, but it's probably not a bad guideline to bear in mind. Hope your little one is ok :D

It's impossible to say, you need to keep a record over a few weeks so you can spot any trends :?
