  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I am having to make a very tough descision and I would appreciate some advice. I think I know the answer to my question already, it's just not th one I want
I have now lost 2 rabbits to myxi in the last year, they were both vacinated and in good health before. I have just found out my neighbour has had hers pts due to myxi (also vaccinated) and I am now thinking it may be best to rehome my other 3 buns, as it is obviously very prevolent in my area. I love them to pieces, but I can't risk putting them through that awful disese and I can't stand the prospect of trying to nurse another bunny through it and failing.
I take every possible precaution, but my garden backs onto a field which has wild rabbits and I think I'm fighting a loosing battle.
Sorry for rammbling on, I hope this makes sense. I would appreciate any input/ advice, many thanks

i just wanted to say im so sorry that your in that situation! i have no advice but didnt want to read and run.

I'm sorry to hear you're in that situation.

Can I ask what precautions you're taking?

Also, to avoid any direct or close contact with the wildies, could your bunnies move inside?

Aww so sorry to read this :( Have you spoken to your vets about this? I once spoke to a lady who had bunnies in a high myxi area, and she was advised to have your bunnies vaccinated every three months to protect them - which it did - it may be an option??

Unfortunately tho, it would probably need your neighbours to do the same :(
