  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,

My bun has been to vet this morning as he seemed a bit off yesterday and when I went to feed him this morning, he was totally disinterested.

The vet checked him all over, no teeth issues, gut moving ok, etc.

He gave him an injection to make sure his tum keeps moving and also an injection of metacam.

He's home now and has eaten a little bit of grass and a few nuggets, he seems a bit perkier but he hasn't done any poos.

I know he hasn't eaten much yet and I will continue to encourage him, I also have some recovery food from the vet which I will try later if needs be but should I be worried about the lack of poos at this stage?

I'm really not sure how long you should expect it to take before the poos appear, but hope someone else can give you some advice.

I wouldn't worry too much right now about no poo, they should arrive shortly. I would personally start using the recovery food now to get all the fibre possible into your bun.

Also forgot to add, get some fresh herbs to help bun getting around to eating more. Most rabbits can't resist the fresh herbs (well works with my 4 anyway)

Thank you so much for your advice, bun is eating but only small amounts and also done a few small poops. Tried to syringe some of the food into him but I find it so difficult, he seems to store it in his mouth and spits it out when I let him go!

He does seem a bit better now but I will keep a very close eye on him xx
