Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Need advice on feeding mum with 2-3week old kits

xleannex

Young Bun
She has 5 kits in with her who are approx 2-3 weeks old, as soon as I put her pellets in they scoff it! I was told they nibbled but these seem to love it, she does get some but not enough, I worry about putting more in as the kits will be at it again and I'm sure its not good for them? (I'm new to this and this was an accidental litter so please tell me if i have the complete wrong idea on things) at the moment I'm hand feeding her veg several times a day (I was told not to put any of this in because of the kits?)
All things seem well at the moment, kits are doing great and mum looks the size as she was before she had them. The kits started this in the week when they came out the nest, I'm Just worried if this continues she will be underweight etc? Is there something I am not doing?

Sorry for all the questions, i have a tendency to worry about even the smallest of things

Hi you need to be feeding unlimited pellets as the babies are growing if mum had veg when she was pregnant then the babies will be fine nibbling the veg

Right. Have brought many babbies up and all have lived a long healthy liife, so you must give more food than you are doing for both Mum and babies. Mum will still be feeding babies for a while yet so needs lots of food, plenty of greens or wild forage if possible. stacks of hay. Now that the babies are eating dried food they should always have a supply for when they are hungry and they can eat any veg or grass that Mum eats. This way they will become accustomed to it rather than waiting till they are older and maybe having problems when you start feeding it. Make sure the water bottle is low enough for them to reach and as there are 5 put 2 bottles in or a bowl and a bottle so they get used to both ways of drinking. You can also give them Readigrass as they will love that. Hope this helps you and the babies.
