Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cleaning the hutch with kitts

Young Bun
Hi, i came here several weeks ago seeking advice about a possible accidental pregnancy, vets said she was not expecting and was planning on getting them spayed etc, was just waiting for payday.

however, I was inspecting her hutch and saw a huge pile of hay she had piled moving and yep, she had 5 kitts and buried them inside the pile, we have no idea when they were born, i first noticed them 2 1/2 weeks ago. There all very healthy and absolutely gorgeous  they came out of there nest in the week and running around like crazy.
My question is when can we clean it out? I've been cleaning around the nest since but have not touched that area, I wouldnt call it a nest anymore as there all big now and they've flattened the area but they still sleep in that place. Is it okay to clean it out completely and make another big comfy area for them?

It should have been being cleaned out since they opened their eyes to prevent any issues with conjunctivitis, so don't worry too much about cleaning. Just salavage what you can (i.e. what's clean) and put that back where the nest is so that they know where to go back to.
