  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Try syringing meds or try to give them with food?

I've read the stickies about good ways to give meds and I'm still at a loss. Tango is due his meds at 11. He has eaten and pooed a bit and had some water but in the last half hour he's just sat still.

I'm worried that if I try to syringe it and he stresses out, it will be even worse and he needs them 3 times a day. On the other hand, I don't want to put him off eating - I think he's about ready for his next lot as he's stopped moving about and munching. He is only just getting over stasis, I don't want to get it wrong.

Don't know what to do!!:?

I syringed into banana at first as I thought direct may be too stressful. However I soon discovered Bluebell was a metacam junkie so she would lap directly from the syringe. Bramble needed banana.

Thank you soooooo much, he just ate all 3 types on dandelion leaves, and seemed to enjoy them :) I was so worried for no reason!

If it is metacam, try directly out of the syringe. Quite a few buns like it and think it is a treat. If not try to disguise in food.
