  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes needed for Mindy :(

New Kit
My poor Mindy; she was fine this morning but when we returned after a Sunday walk she was huddled in her litter tray and not pooping or eating -even favourites like parsley .

I whisked her off to the emergency vets this evening and the out-of-hours vet gave her a really long, thorough check up, but couldn't find anything obvious. Mindy at least was given a painkiller injection to last the next 8 hours and I've been given Protexin FibrePlex and Oxbow Critical Care to give her every two hours tonight, and I'm sitting up with her.

I'm so worried though; it's the first time one of my buns has been poorly and I've got no idea why . Just praying she gets better and that the medicine does the trick.

Maybe she was just feeling a little 'off it' today? My rabbit has gone through phases of not eating and being super quite, but he always turns out fine :)

I think it;s just a case of keeping an eye on her for the next few days.

Lots of cuddles are in order, I think!

How is Mindy this morning ?

You did exactly the right thing by taking her to the Vets. When a Rabbit stops eating it is never a good idea to just 'keep an eye on them for a few days'. Veterinary attention should always be obtained.

Really hoping that Mindy is better now.

Mindy starting to eat again

Thanks for all the good wishes people! :)

Well I had an anxious night syringing fibre paste into the poor old girl, and she finally started mini-pooping mid-way through the next day.

At least now I have gained experience in how to gently syringe-feed a seriously grumpy rabbit. She gave us quite a shock and I still have no idea what would have happened had we not got medical advice. I still don't know what caused onset - she is moulting heavily at the moment could she have eaten some fur and blocked her gut?

xHop (very relieved)

Yes moulting can cause tummy problems. Try and groom out as much of the moulting fur as you can.

Glad to hear she is feeling better.
