Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Deaf and blind bun

Dutchy

Young Bun
I've had my mini lop Alonso for a couple of weeks now and had my suspicions that he was deaf and blind, the vets confirmed this today when I took him for his vaccination.
Does anyone else on RU have deaf and blind buns that could give me any advice on making things a bit easier for him?

I have amostly deaf, mostly blind bunny. She is very dependent on her bonded friends (of which she has two- one who is also mostly blind and another who is absolutely fine and dandy). When I want to communicate with her and the others haven't gotten her interest, I blow gently on her face which she responds well to. She has a good sense of smell and doesn't seem too phased by any of this. Personality of the bunny has a huge impact on how they manage.

Thanks I will keep the blowing on him trick in mind. I'm hoping to bond him to my female Dutch once he has been neutered I just worry about him not having any stimulation at the moment :( personality wise he is a very shy little bunny.

You can try stimulating him with food, like hiding it, scattering it, things like that. Likely his sense of smell will be top notch so this could keep him busy. Also, different textures and stuff can be useful too. A friend will give him even more stimulation too :)
