  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Possible myxi :(

Wise Old Thumper
Saw a wild rabbit sitting right against the kerb as we were driving home and I thought it was injured, my bf and I looked and it was myxi from the look of it

It was 5 minutes from my house at the bottom of the village, 10ish minutes from Tamworth, Staffs, but we are classed as Warwickshire. About 5 minutes from my bf's house too, and he is classed as Birmingham. We're kind of in the middle of everything.

Leo is being vacc'd on Monday but Poppy can't because of her medicine  Donny and Lola are up to date but this has really worried me :(

Given that the main vector of Myxi is blood sucking flying insects you could up your fly deterrents- so using fly netting, fly strips etc. Also flea treating all animals.

If she had the vaccine less than a year ago there is still some residual protection, 6 months after vaccination it dwindles but there is still some. I think I remember Poppy being indoors, so I'd just do what Jane has said and also keep windows closed as much as possible, especially dusk and nighttime, when the flying insects are attracted to lights indoors.

I'd also refrain from wearing shoes that have been walked about in wildie populated areas like fields etc, in Poppy's room.

Dont panic, I'm sure she will be fine.
