Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny Itching Ear

My bunny has been itching and sometimes shaking his ear for the last week or so. He itches it with his foot and goes right into his ear. I check everyday to see if theres any obvious sign of infection like redness, crust etc. but there is nothing at all! It looks perfectly normal????!!!! He's an indoor house rabbit.
Also, when my bunny nudges me with his forehead/nose it feels kinda wet. I checked his nose and again, theres nothing obvious. Could it be a small lick???
I've only had my bunny for about 9 months and he's never licked me directly. He always licks me indirectly by starting to lick the floor or carpet will I cuddle/stroke him.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with his ear??? Should i take hime to the vet??? I've already gone to the vet twice for nothing.... it was just me being too cautious.

You need to take him to a Vet who will look in his ear with an otoscope. The problem may be as simple as an annoying plug of wax that is not visible to the naked eye. Or it may be ear mites or an ear infection.

My rabbits had ear mites about 3 weeks ago, they are also house rabbits. Lucy had scaly crusts on her ears, i new it was ear mites. I took them to the vets, Jack showed no signs of the mites but when the vet looked in his ear she said that he was the one who properly had them first and has passed them on to lucy, they itched a little and shook their heads but not to much. I wouldnt have noticed if Lucy hadnt had crusty ears, they gave me Xeno 450 2 tubes for Jack and 1 for Lucy that got rid of them. Take him to a vet, they usually get wet noses either when ill- cold etc. or when their to hot? Hope this helps
