  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How to stop Dee picking at her wound?

JemimaH

Dee was spayed on the 21st and her wound was glued. She's been worrying at the glue all evening and now it's red raw. She keeps picking and picking bless her, shes not comfortable at all and I just wondered if there was any way to soothe it? Apparently Sudocrem can work?

I'd have a word with your vet. Our vet doesn't like using the cones as it can put rabbits off eating, apparently and/or cause other problems.

Could you perhaps put a bandage on her or would that freak her out? (not a plaster obviously )

She hates having anything on her, she'd go beserk  I've put some toys in her indoor cage and generally tried to do stuff to take her mind off it but obviously i'll be going up to bed at 11.30 and then she's got all night before she'll go out in her hutch outside where it's a bit more stimulating so hopefully will distract her! I've put some sudocrem on but shes still worrying at it, not as much but she's still uncomfortable :?
