So I bought the buns a hay rack...

LittleEskimo

Mama Doe
i bought them a nice big hay rack to help keep their hay all nice. I bought one with hooks on and as I wanted it inside the hutch and not on the mesh I screwed these little eyelets into the wood for the hooks to go into. Filled it with hay and left them to it.

Well this morning I went out there and they had managed to unhook it and throw it around the hutch!!

God dam buns. Might have to think up another plan

Silly buns

I can't fully visualise the hay rack set up.... but if you can figure it out I think your best bet is padlocks :p I bought three little cheap ones for £1 (for all three!) from the pound shop to padlock the hutches door shut (Lilly knows how to open it ). They crappy enough that a human could just pull it off, but strong enough that a bun wouldn't be able to :p plus they're thin so they can fit through small holes and don't get in the way

Aww, I know that feeling. Fingers crossed you can think of another solution.

Rabbits, who would have them???

Really?!:lol: wow that's one clever bun

Well it is this type of hay rack http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Hay...all_Animals&hash=item20c97d16af#ht_1322wt_813

And these are the little eyelet thingies I screwed into the side of the hutch http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Silve...ryMaking_GL&hash=item3a71878e9a#ht_1037wt_813

Just an easy way of putting it up. But the buns must have managed to tug it around and unhook it

She is a clever bun, I forgot to the padlock on once and she escapes whilst I was at work  my boyfriend spent ages trying to catch them!

Maybe get some of those luggage padlocks, the really thin ones then hook them through the eyelets, and then through the side bars of the hayrack and clip the padlock closed? At least they can't shake it off, but they might be strong enough to pull the eyelets out of the wood!!

i've tried all kinds of hay racks and none really work for my buns - they're always pulling them down, or jumping into them, and so putting themselves at risk of broken legs.

p@h did a chewy house with a straw roof - my buns didn't want to chew them so i turned them upside down and put hay in - that worked ok for matthew and tabitha. charles and cecile don't like hay - they spread it all over the floor and made a big 'secret toilet' with it - thus annoying the [insert censored smiley, it won't work for me] out of their bunnymummy. so i put some hay in the poo tray. now we're all confused. poos are going fine but hay is still not being consumed in great enough quantities.

I tried the same thing with the same result. Was so happy thinking I'd finally found a solution to hay ending up everywhere, went downstairs next morning and hayrack had been pulled down and thrown around  I have no idea how they did it.

They won't be able to get this one off!

Oh and you could put an extra eyelet screw on the bottom of the rack and attach them together with a cable tie.

Ugh they did it again  Cable ties seem like a good idea, I am not sure if a cheap little padlock would fit around, i'd need something a bit bigger.

Cable ties do sound like a good idea :) I would use them but because I have to open that door multiple times a day I'd end up going through LOADS :p
