Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fibreplex-Use Longterm?

sonnet

Alpha Buck
After Dylan suffered 2 nasty bouts of bloat (causes unknown) at the beginning of the month his Vet advised it would be worth giving him a dose once a day of 'Fibreplex' to help his stomach.
I have been doing this but as it is working out quite costly I'm now wondering if it's safe to keep giving daily?
Also whether there are any slightly cheaper alternatives that do a similar job to 'Fibreplex'?
Help appreciated!

The protexin Pro-fibre pellets could be an option, these are really good for tummy issues and, although still expensive, could work out cheaper than the fibreplex

What do you usually feed?

His diet since his last attack of bloat is:

unlimited variety of hays (meadow, timothy & rye, oat)
mixed herbs/dried 'bunny safe' leaves
and Excel pellets (15grams twice daily).
I now feed no veges at all.

Yes, i had looked at these but wasn't as sure if they'd be as good as the Fibreplex or not?
I agree they aren't cheap but they would certainly last longer than the Fibreplex is doing!!

I could send you a wee sample to check that Dylan would eat them before you buy them? Pm me your name and address if you would like.
