Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Am i missing something? Everyone seems to recommend petplan yet helpucover is cheaper and i cant see any difference.
helpucover dont cover flystrike if it is a second or subsequent flystrike, and they dont cover dental problems until after the bun has been insured for 2 years.
Petplan dont cover burring or rasping of the teeth, but have paid out for a dental for me and some other people on here, I think they just omitted the actual cost of the rasping, which was for me like £7 in a total bill of over £100.
Not sure on excesses either, cant find it on the helpucover website, but it is £50 for petplan, per illness per policy year.
Looks like helpucover will pay their premiums for you for 6 months if you get seriously ill though.
I dont know about helpucover, you'll have to ask them, but petplan also do not raise premiums if you claim.
Really. Gosh I would want to be covered for flystrike and dental.
helpucover has an excess of £50. Pets at Home £75.
Yup, me too!
"We cannot provide cover for treatment related to a second or subsequent instance of fly strike.
.....
Dental treatment is normally excluded except where specifically to relieve suffering provided the rabbit has been insured under this policy for at least two years."
