Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Sneezing

Azucena

Alpha Buck
Hi,

My rabbit (who we recently discovered was male, not female as we were told!) sneezed a couple of times (maybe three) in a row while sitting in his cat litter box full of hay. His nose isn't running and I haven't heard him sneeze since. Is this anything to worry about? Will I need to mention it to the vets when he goes in to be neutered?

Thanks for any help.. And hopefully putting my mind at ease!

Can you describe the poo? If it is black, smelly and squishy this may be an uneaten cecal, usually caused by something in his diet. If they are stringy poo, that look like a chain attached with fur then this is due to his moult and as long as he has plenty of hay to eat, shouldn't cause him any problems.

I wouldn't worry about the sneezing unless it persists. He probably got some dust up his nose :) Keep an eye on him and make sure there is no discharge.

There is occasionally the stringy type poo, but also just the normals ones, but in a not circular shape.

Thanks for you help. :)

His poos have been normal for the past couple of days.

He has a few pellets in the morning, about a handful for tea and some fresh veg (changing over to herbs as and when they grow!) and a treat. Constant access to hay of course also.

(He did a mini snort type thing (unsure how to describe it.. a short exhale of breath?) today, but I've read that can be in response to an unpleasant smell, or anger at me?

ETA: He has been eating a less hay than usually as he didn't like the hay I had for him as much as his regular stuff, but I have bought some more of his favourite hay again now.
