Bonding confusion!

We are trying to bond our male and female bunnies, Truffle is our boistrous boy who is about a year old and neutered and Liquorice is our baby girl who is coming up to five months but she hasn't been spayed yet. They have been living next door to each other quite happily with just chicken wire between them for about a month. We have been attempting to bond them on neutral territory in the house gradually and even though she isn't spayed we have had progress. During the good periods together, they will lay together and occasionally groom each other. However they will be chilling out together for a while then get up, wander off and when they come back together start trying to bite each others groins and have to be separated. There is no mounting and no chasing whatsoever. We don't know if her not being spayed yet is the problem or if they are both trying to establish dominance and how far to let them go before we intervene? Usually we leave them to their own devices unless one of them starts showing signs of distress. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, we are wondering whether to stop until she has been spayed in a month or so or continue in the meantime?

Thanks! Dave and Naomi :)

Personally, I would leave it until she is spayed - leave them still living next to each other but hold off introducing them until she has been done. Sounds like they have made some good progress but sometimes hormones just get in the way!!!

Completely agree with this.
