Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nail clipping a stressed bun - is there a good way to do it?

New Kit
Hello, I'm new. Wanting to hear what other bunny owners think.

We clipped our Chowder (she's a 3 year old Netherland Dwarf) nails last night but she has always hated having them done. I usually hold her tight across my chest and my husband will clip her nails from under my arms.

She has never liked it and last night was moving around a lot so I tucked her head into my elbow and she seemed to keep quite calm and still. But then when I straightened her up, she opened her jaw wide at me like she was yawning and was breathing really quickly.

I spent a couple of hours with her and stroking her until she calmed down but I don't want to keep doing this if she is getting stressed.

I've tried the towel thing, she hates that too. Would the best thing be taking her to the vet?

Thanks so much in advance for your help.
Yvonne

Can you sit her up on the kitchen worktop, get someone to hold her in place and then lift each foot at a time....might be more like being at the vets?
