Sneezing Bunny!

Monkfish

New Kit
Hello! I'm new to rabbits, but did my usual trip to the Rspca to find they had 29 bunnies that need a home :( I took two, a little Rex called yoshimi, and a black lion head called mr teach. They live inside at night and outside with my chickens and ducks in the day. Yoshimi is about 6months old, had a recent trip to the vets because she has sneezing fits. She stands up, and does about 10 cute sneezes! Vet gave her a thorough check, twice to make sure, but couldn't find anything wrong. Mr teach doesn't sneeze at all. So I'm now thinking she may have some sort of allergy to something? Any ideas would be great!

I should probably also mention, I have other animals....rats, chinchillas and horses.

It might be the chickens if u are putting them all together be careful ya bunnys don't eat the chicken feed

Bunnys have a very delicate digestive system and their main diet should be 80_90percent hay and just a eggcup of pellets of their own daily chicken feed won't be good for ya bunnys gut I personally wouldn't put bunnys together with any other animal

Lots of things can make a bun sneeze. We have a young rex (12 weeks) who sneezes around some hay (depending on the supplier!!!!) but none of our other 9 buns have a problem with it.

18 months ago we adopted a lovely little girl bun Lilly who unfortunately died in a horrible accident. However when she was first with us she too would sneeze quite badly. She was checked by the vet who suggested soaking her hay for 30 minutes and then letting it dry before giving it to her. This worked perfectly. After a while we were able to stop soaking the hay as she had stopped sneezing.

I would heed the advice here about not keeping rabbits and chickens together. I know it is something some people have done for many years but that doesn't make it right. Bunnies are much more fragile (gut wise) than many people think.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Unfortunately until we make another part o the farm fox proof, that's where they are staying.

You're right, a lot of mixed opinions about rabbits and chickens living together.

As a Rex owner, can you tell me a little bit more about them? I don't know if we're lucky or it's the nature of the breed, but she's like a tiny little dog! Comes to her name, jumps on my lap, loves affection, chases a ball and I've even started her doing small tricks (up and spin for food, just like my rats)
