  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please Help - I think Gimli's unwell! - U/D

I don't know where to start but:
Last night when I gave Gimli his pellets he didn't eat them (Until late into the night) which is unlike him as usually he has the food gobbled down within seconds.
I noticed today that he wasn't moving much and all his droppings were extremely tiny and black. I didn't give him anything else to eat apart from the hay but he still hasn't eaten much of that.
He his currently hiding in his bed :(
Any ideas of what this could be?

You really need to get him to the vet straight away. He sounds very poorly - and rabbits go downhill so fast.

It sounds as though his GI tract has slowed right down. This can become very serious if it is not treated promptly by a Vet.

The best thing you can do for him is take him to a Vet this afternoon

Here is some information which should explain why it is so important to act quickly

Vets asap - as others have said.

In the meantime, offer him some fresh pineapple juice, as this will help ease any blockages he may have and will also keep his fluid intake up which is very important.

Let us know how you get on x

Thanks for all the help. It turns out it was just a bloat, Gimli is looking a lot better today, though we just have to keep an eye on him incase it goes bad again/ turns into something worse.
