  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Haven't heard back from the Vets...

Bramble was referred to Cambridge Vet Group to see Marion Ford...I am waiting to hear back from her about a possible Lung Biopsy, she was trying to get more information about it all from some other specialists. I have rung twice now and she still hasn't rung back. I appreciate she is very busy, so do I ring again? :(

Spoke to the vets this morning. We are dropping Bramble off tomorrow evening. He will have a Lung Wash on Friday to rule out any infection in his lungs. Then if he is 'all clear' he will be started with an inhaler steriod. They think he possibly has a form of asthma. The inhaler will be inserted into a mask which he will have to wear over his face. This is apparently done with cats and has been very sucessful. Also Richard Saunders from the RWAF is currently trying it with some rabbits in Bristol. Fingers crossed for our little man!

I am dreading the fact that he has to have another GA for the Lung Wash, but they really do feel it is worth doing. The Lung Biopsy is a definate no go, which I have to say I am relieved about.

Sending millions of vibes for Bramble, sorry I have only just seen this!

When do you get him back? xx

Update....

Phoned yesterday and Bramble has recovered well from his GA....phew! Apparently he is eating like crazy!! They are going to start him with the inhaler over the weekend, so we are hoping we will be able to collect him early next week. We miss him! The vet will get the results from his Lung Wash middle of next week, so it will be very interesting to hear the results. If it does turn out to be an infection then he will go on different antibiotics, if not they will continue with the inhaler...such a relief to know something is finally happening. I'm going to phone in a mo to see how he is again!

Mrs Ford rang me back. We are collecting Bramble on Wednesday afternoon! :) She is going to show us how to use the nebulizer, aparently his respitory rate has gone down a little already!
