  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Metacam/Loxicom 12 hours apart?

Ben was given an injection of 0.18 Loxicom (which I think is Metacam?) last night about half past 10 by the out of hours vet for the pain they think he has gained from his left back leg.

The vet said I am ok to give him more dog Metacam at lunctime today, but just checking that this is ok? He didnt seem THAT rabbit savvy, not awful but not as good as my usual vet.

Ben's normal dosage is 0.7ml one daily.

Thanks

Loxicom and Metacam are the same. They can be given a dose 12 hours apart but the injection is usually stronger and last for 24 hours. I don't think it would harm, but wait until the evening if you're worried.

How is he doing now?

Yes, I think I'll wait until later on this evening and then give him some, just to be on the safe side.

He's ok thanks Jenova, not quite himself but so much better than last night! Please keep your fingers crossed that he perks up :(

I have been given Loxicom to give to Sootie over the weekend, I was told 0.3mls am and pm, but then Sootie is a mini lop and only 11 weeks old so I think the dosage will go on weight? maybe wrong. I have syringed it to him.
