Why would they be your 'worst fears' ?

Any RTI be it upper or lower can be treated, worked on, certainly not given up on and thuoght the worst of before a proper veterinary consultation and C&S for example.

You've seen Ginger and many of the other bunnies on RU - they've been living with 'snuffles' illnesses for many many months, even years. It's not the end of the world, so don't make it that way, it won't do you, but more importantly, Poppet any good. You stressing will stress her, which in turn, could make her worse.

Just need to suck it up and do what you need to do.

Make a vet appt, get her seen by a real rabbit savvy vet and a course of action planned.

Don't think its the be all end all.

Awww poor Poppet

This hot weather will test any Rabbit and being obligate nose breathers a dormant URT issue can easily kick off

I would get her examined by a Rabbit Savvy Vet today who will probably prescribe a course of antibiotics.

Trying to keep her environment cool and stress free will also help

Good luck at the Vets xx

Thankyou Graham, im just scared after losing Ulfric to it, granted his was hidden but its always scared me since.

Right ive calmed down cant be scaring Po(thanks for pointing that out its the only reason i could calm down)
Poppets booked in for 9:50am tomorrow shes at Molly Vargars Branch but Molly is fully booked except for emergencies.
shes ok in herself still munching and pooing and weeing, She is being a little more needy than most days, but that could just be me just watching her alot more closely.

So clear heads on; we need to get a culture test on the bacteria?
Ive already read so much on this illness and obsessed over it, When losing Ullfy i guess ive put it up on a pedestal :?

I'm guessing it would be because the OP has had a recent run of awful luck with losing bunnies and, while the illness itself is hopefully manageable, she's no doubt feeling a little stressed (as most of us are when our bunnies show signs of illness) and unable to cope due to past issues.

Poor Poppet, you can do this Chrissy and we're all here for you and will support you through. As Jane said, I would advise that you make a vet appt today and take it from there. Let us know how things go. xxx

ETA: You snuck in and posted while I was posting!

Thankyou jane, as with last post im unable to get her in today unless i take up an emergency appointment with Molly who is the only exotics specialist in the area, i dont like to take emergency appointments unless i really feel its needed incase an animal more needy comes in :)oops:)
as is i have an appointment for first thing tommorow.
Cool and stress free however we can do that,

Is lots of Fresh forage a good idea or shall i leave off that? (i just picked loads thismorning)
Ive read alot of people cut pellets down or out of the diet when they have flare ups?
She hasnt sneezed for a while now thankfully although if she starts again ill obviously rush her straight to the vet

Hit the nail on the head Karen,

I know youll all be here you always are :) i dont know what id do without this forum.

I hope that it will be a one off episode hun. I am not surprised you are worried though and i hope the vet can allay your fears.

Poppy has been on Baytril and metacam for a week now and her sneezing has improved somewhat :thumb: she isn't sounding snuffly and 'coughy' in her chest now so her upper respiratory infection has got a lot better which is great :D we're going to see how she is after the weekend with no medication and if she starts up again then the vet is giving us a longer 'dosage' :)

Hope she's okay :D

Thanks hun, Maybe its a thing with 'poppy rabbits' at the mo

As long as she is accustomed to the fresh forage and it is sourced from a pollutant free area then feeding it to her should not be an issue.

Given her past history of headtilt it might be a good idea to check with the Vet that it will be OK to wait until tomorrow for an appointment. Personally I would want her seen today if at all possible as the sooner the abx are started the better if active infection is diagnosed.

Ahh i hadnt thought about her tilt, i shall see what i can do about getting her in this evening instead.

For a poorly rabbit she is sure causing alot of trouble (has climbed onto the Television  )

That would be good

It is just that if the headtilt was due to a bacterial otitis it may be that this is an associated flare-up. Same bacteria, just different symptoms.

I'd mention her history to the Vet just in case it is not the Vet surgery who treated the headtilt.

I am going throught he same same thing with my Rocky....he sneezed and as well I saw the white discharge and just though 'oh no'. Anyway he was on baytril and seemed fine after for a week but then sneezed again and I saw the white discharge again. I took him back to the vets and she has given me a full bottle of septrin which will last 3 weeks. I am hoping after that it will clear up but if not he will go in for a dental as he has a small spur.

I know its worrying I kept thinking what if the others get it or it gets into his lungs etc. Also will it keep flaring up all the time?...I was in a panic too.

Luckily for Rocky it only seems to be nasal I listen to his breathing each morning and night but he is happy/eating/pooping fine etc.

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted!

If we can get in at 5:30 (going to be a push) we can have the slot. but its going to be a hard push andy finishes at 5 and doesnt get here till 5:15 and it takes 20 to get to this surgery,
Jane id have never even thought to relate the tilt with this, id convinced myself it was more likely an ear infection than EC related:oops:

And a huge thankyou again for reminding me to mention her past history with this vet:oops:
I forget they arent mind readers:oops::oops:

Shes a little tough cookie so i know she can and will keep being a monkey through it all:)

Jane you are one in a gazillion!

ETA read up on Bacterial otitis and realise its not EC ;)
Forgive my ignorance im not all clued up on this stuff yet:oops:

In which case that does sound more likely

Im not sure about Poppets yet, i dont want to put my head near her chest as her teethies are all too willing to remind me whos boss

Shes not long had a full health check and been given a full bill of health teeth wise so thankfully we dont need to worry about anesthetic etc yet.

she hates medicine and will no doubt ignore it if i put it on her pellets.. ill come to that bridge when i get there.

hope Rocky is feeling well soon :(

Rocky really hated the baytril it must taste awful and he really fought me when I had to give it to him but he is much better with the septrin (its banana flavoured) and his wife Bluebell even chases him afterwards because she wants some...she must like the smell so I have to seperate them for half an hour to stop her bugging him because he smells all sweet and fruity!

Anyway I'm sure you will feel more positive after going to the vets and shes on her meds!

I would get a c&s test done if you can, as you cant get it done once on abx. I'd talk to your vet about abx, also maybe discuss bisolvon (thins mucus) and metacam (reduces swelling and pain, and so helps mucus to drain out), to see whether they think its worth using them at this stage.

This hot-cold-hot-cold weather recently I think has taken its toll on many snuffles buns, and it being followed with this heat wave hasnt helped.

Hope she's okay. At this stage, you dont need to panic, its just a bit of snot :) many buns just need a bit of help to overcome the bacteria. Even if it does become longterm, with the right treatment it can be managed just fine and bun can be happy and fairly healthy.
