Help finding CCTV

i_am_tre

Warren Scout
I am looking for a CCTV system to put in my rabbit hutch to watch them. Now im all googled out and I can't find what I'm looking for. I know you guys are pretty good at finding things for people on here so I'm hoping you can help.

I'm looking for a CCTV system with the following attributes as a must:
- wireless
- waterproof
- battery operated as I don't have electricity in the back garden
- night vision or infrared

And the following attributes as a would like them but not a necessity:
- one that moves to see, say 180 degrees around itself or more
- one that can be viewed on a laptop, iPad or iPhone.

I did see this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-camera-2-ways-Mobile-Viewing/dp/B00432J56G/ref=pd_sim_computers_1 and loved it but I don't know how to hook it up as I have no electric. Also I wasn't sure if it was waterproof as people have used it outside but I'm not sure... But that one has everything I want from it!

This is not a webcam but it's what I use. You plug it into a composite input (yellow plug) on your TV. It has nightvision, is outdoors but not entirely waterproof, you should have it underneath a shelter of some sort. The batteries I use last between 12-24hrs including night vision.

Wireless Camera SV04-803 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sumvision-S...QXPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343330305&sr=8-1 (this one operates at 1.39ghz, be careful as some that look like this work at 1.2ghz which is not licensed in the uk)

bump. :)

i have a web cam and my leah is indoors, would also like to know how to put up a system that i can view it from anywhere in the country or world! :)

I have the TP Link one and it is good quality, it pans/tilts and you can view it on your mobile or over the web. It does need electricity though but it is wireless and has night viewing which is quite good too (in black and white). I do think it is invaluable when they are not well and you don't want to keep annoying them, or you go away on holiday and want to check in on them (I even check in when I am at work on my phone  ) Think it is indoor only.

Down side - it is not cheap but we had other ones which we had difficulty setting up and getting to work over the internet. This model does work off a dynamic ip address so if you have an ip provider that does not offer this you need to sign up to something where you can create your own (my o/h did it so not sure what it is called.

For an indoor webcam with a power socket available you just want to look for a network video camera, either wireless or wired depending on how far you want it from your router.

Don't get a Tenvis cam, I've got one and it only works with wifi when you are in the house :( I got it so I could see the buns when I'm not here, and I can't!!

Can you explain a bit more about how this works please? When I put the camera in my hutch/shed/aviary etc what goes in there aswell, just the camera, what about the receiver that is pictured?

The camera comes with a little mount that you screw into a wall or ceiling etc and all you need to connect to that are the batteries using the battery holder that I listed. You just unclip the battery pack and clip on a new one (it's useful to have two packs so you can use one whilst charging the other).
Inside your house you have the receiver and connect it to your TV using a yellow phono lead like this:

If your TV doesn't have a yellow phono input you can get a SCART adapter. Then you just twiddle the knob on the receiver until you get a picture. The range is quite good, but you should position the camera and the receiver so they have as few things between them as possible, eg it's best if the receiver is by the window. The range also varies with the battery life so when the batteries run down you may lose the picture sooner if there's lots of things in the way.

Using this system you wouldn't be able to see the image over the internet (unless you connected it to a computer, but that's quite compicated), but I don't think you will get that on a battery powered device anywhere.

What about this kind of thing?

would only be for indoors, but if you were a little tech savvy, would this be a good thing to invest in if you wanted to spy on the buns?

I certainly have a interest in watching what my two get up to... they get into the silliest places and gaps or jump around. I've found so many bags of hay or food spilled all over the floor in the morning!

Definitely read the reviews if your looking for an indoor network camera. Some cheap stuff from china comes with really bad software that might not work on your computer.

Would your internet provider/connection speed have any bearing on how well the camera works wirelessly? I don't want to spend loads of money on a better camera if it will still be naff due to my Internet! :? Confused.com!

Your internet speed won't affect how well you can see the camera within your own house but once you connect through the internet it could. You might not get full motion video, eg 30fps but even if you have a slow internet speed it would still be usable, maybe 5-10fps. If your internet upload speed is really **** it would be like watching a slide show, so you could still see them.
