  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye problems :(

We adopted our bunnies last weekend and they are only 9 weeks old, the day after I found a problem with the females left eye, took her to the vets and vet said she was born with no vision in that eye but should not be a problem, went out today and poor Flopsys eye is very weepy and closed us, have bathed it and am going to take her to vets again, just don't know what to do, feel a bit annoyed that we paid £35.00 for a bunny and this will be my second vet trip already, though I know its not Flopsys fault. :(

I hope you can solve her eye issues, or, at the least, manage them.

Can you maybe get whoever you got them from to pay some of the bill?

Which vets do you use ?

You can start a thread in 'Rabbit Chat' with the following title...

You may find going to a more experienced rabbit vet will be beneficial for you and your rabbits.

Thanks guys, unfortunatly I took her to the vets and was told she had a really bad eye infection and was really not very well and would probably need her eye removed at some point, I was worried about my other rabbit catching eye infection so we made the hard decision to take her back to her breeder and got another rabbit, the breeder said she would give her some drops for her eye and hopefully a more experienced owner can take her on.
