The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Sticky eye after spay :(

Summer&Skye

Mama Doe
My 3 girls have been spayed today, all seems to be well except iv noticed that Skye has a sticky eye. Is this something that could have happened relating to the anaesthetic or the op or is it more likely to have happened since, like an injury through being poked? :( She was hiding behind Summer at back of carrier when I picked them up so I dont know if she had it then or not  I just noticed before that while one eye is bright and alert the other is closed and looks sticky  Should I be worried?

I think vets use a lubricating ointment on eyes during anaesthetic (I think, but might be wrong). It could be a residue from this? However if she is uncomfortable and looks like it is bothering her, I would call the vet to check.

If not enough lubricant was put into the eyes during the GA then the eye may have been irritated. Try gently bathing it with cooled boiled water, nothing else. If it is still inflamed tomorrow then she needs to be seen by the Vet as occasionally a corneal ulcer and/or an infection can occur, both of which would require treatment.

Thanks both of u. Poor Skye, she had infected eyes when I got her but thankfully cleared up with daily bathing. Hope it's ok. Doesn't seem to be bothering her. They r going back to vets tomorrow for check up anyway so will c how it is in morn and obviously get the vet to check it :(

Poor Skye. I have no experience of post-spay buns, but sending vibes. Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

Thankfully Skye's eye looks much better this morn, phew! :D must have just been from the lubricant used during the op. Thanks for advising me, it's been so good being able to come on here for advice, reassurance, and just to be able to 'talk' about rabbit related stuff with people who r just as interested as I am

Beano's eyes were fine after her spay but Boris' were sticky and had some discharge after his neuter, I asked and vet said it was the lubricant used and the next morning it was all cleared up. Hope her check up goes well :)
