  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Parsley had had 3rd Cancer Vaccine

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Steve took Parsley for his 3rd cancer vaccination today . . (I was lecturing away and did not get back in time).

They finally got the levels of sedation right for him so was a relatively quick recovery today - up and on his feet and eating again within 45 mins.

Bizarre thing is that we do all this but dont now whether its 'working' as such . . as its all about preventing the spread of the cancer to his inner organs . .

But I guess we can at least say that the vaccine has had no side effects (other than the disastrous one on our bank balance, credit cards and debts!!!) as Parsley is as lively and nomming as ever - and the hit his immune system must take with each vaccine and the sedation etc doesn't even seem to have affected the long term issue with his inner ear abcsess . . which we still give abx for every day -

He really is the most amazing bun . . .:love:

PS just one more vaccine to go - then if all goes well, just monitoring at our own vets, until we return to the specialist cancer unit in 6 months time for another one - and its then every 6 months for rest of his life.

Really glad that they were able to sedate Parsley safely and get him back on his feet in good time! Indeed, our little furry friends are rather expensive, Fifi's recent probs have cost in excess of £500 so far, and she's only been obviously unwell for a week!

The specialist cancer people dont see many rabbits (in fact only Parsley) so were not great with the sedation at first - had to have firm guidance by my vets . .

but seem to have got it sussed now.

PS meant to say on other thread that vets Fifi is at will de accupuncture.
