Hay as bedding!!

MoBo

Alpha Buck
just wondering if hay is safe to use as bedding with a rabbit who is currently peeing all over the cage (Shes in cage confinement and cant get to the litter tray!!) because we were told that when hay gets wet it grows mould spores which is harmful to the bunny.

Help would be much appreciated :D

Ideally you would want to use something that is absorbant but that is safe so something like Vet Bed. No reason not to use hay provided you clean up frequently enough. Using hay for bedding also encourages eating of it.

Do you know why your bunny is weeing everywhere? If not, then I would recommend finding out as that might solve the problem.

its just because she has a fractured leg and cant get to the litter tray because she has to be kept in cage confinement, she used to go in a certain corner of the cage but because she cant shuffle her bum into it shes just peeing wherever she is.

Thanks for the advice :thumb:

poor bunny. Then yes I'd use Vet Bed which is what vets would use in Kennels as it wicks away the liquid so that the animal remains dry. :)
