  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I am afraid that looks very much like a myxi module - can you turn him over and check if his genital area is swollen at all? Also feel along his ears to see if they feel hot and very sightly swollen or lumpy at the base.

Did he go through a slightly 'quiet' phase a few days ago??

No he's absolutely fine in himself

Did it swell before it went scabby?

Did you check the genitals?

Myxi buns who have a mild case often seem fine at the time - but can sometimes be quiet when they first get bitten- typically a week or so before the bump comes up - which is again a week or so before it scabs. (in very mild cases).

It may be something else but it looks so very similar to very mild myxi.

I take it he is vaccinated?

Genitals fine, eyes fine, no other lumps or bumps anywhere and he I havent noticed a change in him at all and fully vaccinated.

Been to vets this morning and she thinks its an infected granuloma and has prescribed baytril and to go back if it gets no better after 5 days :D
