So worried/scared/stressed out! I don't know what to do :(

I still haven't managed to get hold of my vet, THE ONLY rabbit savvy vet anywhere near me :( I have no clue where she is, not answering phone or email and I have no clue what to do! Boris' snuffles are bad, he's sneezing a lot today, coughing & at times holding his head quite high as if he's struggling  I'm so worried about him and I have literally no one to turn to, or at least no one who can do anything to help! I want to try him on Metacam because I have a feeling it could help a lot (most of his problems are due to swelling in nasal passages I think) but I can't get that as I need my vet to prescribe it to me, also want to get him a nebuliser but I'm struggling financially & honestly don't know if I can afford one right now  I feel so helpless

You could try the home made nebuliser.

I assume you have a bathroom with a bath or shower? (shower is better as its high up)

Get the shower on nice and hot and get the room very steamy with the door shut, then get Boris in there and allow him to hop about if you can so he can breath in the hot warm air - the moisture should help his nose.

Also, where is he housed? Is he indoor? i can't remember, im sorry. Lots of us find different environments help our buns out a lot, if the room is humid getting a dehumidifier can help, keeping the window open, keeping a fan blowing with a bowl of ice/iced water behind it to cool the area down.

Could you even try a non-bunny savvy vet and speak to them prior to the appointment, explaining what you need for him and see if they would listen to you?

Gonna try the shower thing later & see. Thank you.

He's indoors, in the basement. I have a dehumidifier inside their room and there's a lot of water at the bottom so I'm assuming it sucks the moisture up. It's the coolest part of the house so I don't think heat is a problem. I don't know what's affecting him so much :(

Jeez, don't go there then! I really hope you get your vet soon!

Nope, never going there again ever :( been trying to contact the rabbit savvy vet for weeks now and no response whatsoever :( It's very worrying and frustrating, especially when I know exactly what I want to try next. It'd take her literally 5 minutes to prescribe me some Metacam :(

Just got hold of the rabbit savvy vet, but for once I don't agree with her. She doesn't think there's any point in trying Metacam as he's had antibiotics and his problems should be gone by now (!?)

This is a nightmare! I feel like crying  Am I doing this wrong? Am I the only one who thinks he might benefit from Metacam!? I don't see why I can't just try it & see if the swelling inside his nose goes down???

I'm so upset  What on earth am I supposed to do now

metacam has antinflamatory prospects that can help if any inflamation is adding to his issues

Yes, and the more I think about this, the more convinced I am that this is what's been causing his issues all along  The problems were never in his lungs. He has swollen nasal cavaties. It'd explain so much.

Unfortuantely, rabbit medicine is very limited anywhere else. The UK isn't much better in most places, but we have a lot of specialist small animal vets now.

Also, again unfortunately, nobody ever really understands how rabbits work etc.

Gingers snuffles are part of the reason she is on daily metacam.

I genuinely can't see how you can get past this situation unless you can find another vet that would be happy to discuss it further.

There are specialist vets over here, but not anywhere near me. I've been wanting to move forever but I'm even more fed up with this place now. We can't stay here, it's not working :( having a good vet is crucial with buns like Boris & it seems like even this rabbit savvy one isn't nearly as good as I thought

Emailed back to the vet explaining why exactly I think we should try Metacam, and awaiting her reply, but it's not looking good. I don't know what to do at all. If I can't get her to agree then there's literally nothing I can do except what already am doing, which obviously isn't quite enough

Could you contact another vet further out for telephone/email advice and if they agree to try metacam for inflammation, they could write a prescription for it and post to you and/or liaise with your current vet?

I could try, but I don't think they're allowed to prescribe me anything without seeing him first, and I don't want to take him too far away in this state as he finds travelling so stressful :( maybe if they could cooperate with my vet or something. But I don't know :(

If there's a possibility it's allergy related there is stuff you can buy that is a human medicine - presumably you could get it from a pharmacy... Trying to remember name.. Santa knows about it and it's been recommended by a top rabbit vet...

ETA It's Piriton..try searching threads? I think Drusilla had 2 mls of piriton and she was approx 2kg but do check dosage via old threads?

I really don't think it's allergy related but even if it isn't it could still help him in the meantime perhaps? Obviously not as a long term solution. I think he'd benefit from something that reduces the swelling as that seems to be his main problem atm.

ETA: Thanks Tinsel, I'll look it up!

No probs - I seem to remember Santa used it for a snuffle bun, so may be worth dropping her a pm...
