  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

wormer advice please.

Young Bun
first off, is panacur the best wormer for rabbits?
How many times per year should it be given?
And how much is in a tube? I know its 1 syringe graduation per 2.5kg of bodyweight, to be given on 9 consecutive days.

I was given lapizole by the vet once and Im sure that was for worming?? would this work out better, I'm sure I only had to give this for 5 days??

Also for 8 rabbits, would a different wormer work out cheaper?

Thanks

Worming just as a preventative, I regret to admit I have been quite dizzy about my bunnies worming regime, but since getting my adopted buns I feel I should get into a routine and worm...is it twice a year??

There are various opinions on this. Personally I only treat each Rabbit with a one off 28 day course of Fenbendazole. I do not treat any of them again unless clinical symptoms of EC present or if my Vet advises me to do so. In my opinion treating with short courses several times is more likely to lead to a resistance to Fenbendazole.

I have been using this protocol for about 15 years and it has thus far worked well for us.

But as I say, Vets opinions differ and the understanding of EC and its control/treatment is ever evolving.
