  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Will this help or hinder? Is it safe? If it will help are the flavoured ones OK.

My Katy is still poorly and I want to ensure she get fluids into her and get her gut moving again.:(

I have used it, the Blackcurrant Flavour one seems to be the most palatable xx

Thank you Jane.

Do I just give her as much as she will take.

X-rays have shown athritis in her lower back. Teeth are OK. Hubby bringing her back now so will get a fuller update.

That could explain a lot. Prettylupin will be able to offer you good advice as her little Dutch Bun Nino had bad arthritis which caused lots of gut problems too.

Re the Dioralyte, it is a balance between getting a good amount of fluids into her and not stressing her out in the process.

I'd see how she goes when she gets home. If she has been on a drip again she just wont feel thirsty and stressing her out by syringing fluids could be counter-productive. I think if her arthritic pain can be gotten under control her gut function will improve too. Pain (from anywhere) and gut motility are intrinsically linked in Rabbits.
