  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What to expect from a spay

 I'm getting B&B "done" together when Bramble's old enough (23 July) I'm literally counting the days because she's getting a bit moody in her adolescence!

Anyway I was advised to get them done together so that's what I'm planning on doing.

Now, when they've been spayed do they need to be separated? Can I keep them together? Will I need to administer medication? Will I need to watch over them?

I'm worried as I can't get any time off work between June until October  I don't want to wait til then to get them done so if I take them on a Friday will they be OK to be left alone the following Monday when I have to go back to work?

I know these are things I could ask the Vet but you guys are much more savvy  I want to make sure they're in the most safe and comfortable environment for them after their scary operation

Are they both girls or boy and girl? If boy and girl you might need to keep an eye he isnt trying to hump her and hurting himself. Either way you will need to keep an eye on the wounds and check they arent biting at stitches. If you have a boy its fairly normal for his bits to look swollen and sore and he will probably hop with his bum a bit higher than normal at first.

When they come home they will need something soft to sit on some maybe some old towels or blankets and for the first few hours will need to be kept warm so a snugglesafe or two might be useful. Make sure they are eating drinking and pooing regularly and as normal, although poo might look a bit odd to start with

Thanks Webble. They're 2 girls so hopefully no humping! They hump ALOT now but I'm hoping that if they're done at the same time neither will feel "up to it"
