Looks like I'll be having Honey PTS

Lillian

Warren Veteran
I've tried two different treatments for her abscesses but they haven't work, so the only choice left is surgery and I can't afford it. I've tried contacting other vets to see if anyone will do it cheaper but everyones saying no. I called the RSPCA for financial assistance but they can only pay £100 towards the bill. So I'm out of money and out of options  She's not even four yet. Vets care more about the money than saving the animals life.

You need to try penicillin if you can. It's cheap enough. Baytril will not work on abscesses.

I asked for penicillin and the vet gave Cobactan - Which I assumed was Penicillin? If it's not then I'm really :censored: off.

Can't the vets let you pay bit by bit with the RSPCA paying for the first £100? It shouldn't cost more than £200 to get it removed and have medicine after.

£200, I wish! It's £350+ for the surgery, plus a long course of preventative antibiotics. And no, it's money at the time of treatment, no payment plans. I've already spent £200 on her vet care, I can't afford anymore. As of yesterday she's not receiving any treatment at all.

oh gosh, poor honey - dont give up on her.

Is there anything you can sell? someone you can borrow the money from and payback monthly?
Try the options above first (from previous posters) I would feel awful if I couldnt give my animals treatment - I would sell everything I owned to make sure they were treated. Though thankfully mine are insured.

Im sorry

Just popped over to the thread you had before on same topic - that was 23/05 - what happened since then? Has she had any treatment or more diagnosis since then?

It does seem very hard on the bun to give up on abscesses without trying a wider range of treatments.

Hey Lillian,

Dallas has had the same issues. He had 2 huge abscess capsules removed, and it was about £250 I think, he has still had a recurring abscess but it is no where near as bad as it was.
They can take many months to completely go and in Dallas' case, we feel it's never going to clear, but he has been a happy bun still so far.
He has been on depocillin and manuka honey, it has def reduced the infection.

I really think if you can, ask on here for another vet you can get a second opinion from or ask your vet to ring a rabbit specialist vet for advice on different treatment.
Also, have you asked other vets if they would accept a payment plan?
I couldn't have afforded it had I not been able to pay in instalments either so I know what you are going through.
