  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

paralysed bunny

Hi i am in desperate need of some help if anyone can. One of my females has had a litter of 7 and they are 8 weeks old now. I went out the other day ( thursday afternoon) to feed them and found one of the babies laid on the floor not moving much apart from its head. We brought it indoors to check on it further and tried to get it to stand up but it didn't have any strength to do so. It's still eating and drinking fine and seems happy, so we put it in a box and keep it indoors with us to keep an eye on it. the next day it seemed to get a little strength back and by the following day (saturday) it was hopping about as
if nothing had happened.
I sold another of the babies on Friday to a lady and today Sunday she messaged me to say that it wasn't moving but was eating and drinking fine. This all seems abit strange to me and i would really like to know what it could possibly be that has caused it.
Many thanks in advance

Sarah

Have you consulted a Vet ?

For such a rapid onset and relatively fast recovery EC seems less likely, although it cant be completely excluded as a possibility

More likely would be some sort of metabolic disorder eg Hypokalaemia or 'Floppy Rabbit Syndrome'

All the Rabbits need Veterinary attention, including any others from the litter whom you have sold.

When I was handrearing 9 bunnies, one of them couldn't move and I took her to the vets and she said one of the other rabbits had probably jumped on her and trapped a nerve, she gave her an injection then she was right as rain x
