Update on Parsley after specialist clinic and op.

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Parsley has had a busy life the last few days.

Just to recap for those not up to date with Parsley's attempt to break the world most expensive bun record. . .

After the cytology diagnosis for the lump of the eyelid being cancer and the possibility of him using canine melanoma vaccine . .

yesterday we went to the specialist Animal Health Trust to have the lump looked at by the cancer specialist and the opthamologist there - they agreed that they were willing to work with our vets to use the vaccine (the vet is not allowed to use it - it has to be the specialist). So this has now been ordered from the USA in his name.

he licked the vet and the vet nurse and tooth purred in the reception area and sat on the oncologists file while he tried to write notes:oops::lol::lol:

Today he went to our normal vets to have the surgery to take the lump off - which went very well. She retained the eye, and the tear duct (on him), and managed apparently to reconstruct an eyelid. We cannot see much of this at the moment as his eye area is very very swollen - but I am sure when it goes down it will be ok.

It was amazing how well she managed as the lump was about the size of a penny and about 2-3mm thick - right on the front of the eye.

She also took a histo-pathology sample which they will use at the specialist clinic to further analyse the cancer type.

She was able to avoid any contamination with his ear abcsess (last years expensive life threatening health issue - which continues) - though we now have to be very careful when cleaning out the ear for the next few days.

We now have to decide where to 'inject' the vaccine when it comes (its not actually an injection as such - aparently its a sort of 'punch')- normally apparently it goes in a hind leg - usually for some reason the right - but with Parsley this may set up reverberations in the rear leg which still has a single pin thats still left from the 26 pins and 3 plates from the life threatening illness of 3 years ago . . .:roll:

He will see our vet again on Monday to check all is ok, and then the Animal health Trust specialists again in 10 days time when the vaccine arrives.

He is home now and sleepy - but he is always sleepy after ops - she used as little GA as she could as she knows this - but I know it will take a good 24 hours for him to come round again . .

Anyway - he is half bald, and looks a bit odd - especially as its his paralysed side thats been shaved so its smaller than the other side to start with . . .

but the important thing is that he is HOME and we are on the way to trying to beat the cancer !

Oh yes - and he had a lung xray as well which was all clear:thumb:

Wow! He's certainly giving his vets a good run for their money!

Sending recovery vibes in the direction of Parsley and any exhausted owners in his vicinity who may need them!

I am really pressed the op is now behind him, what a relief for you both! I how the swelling goes down soon and causes no issues for his ear.
